  • Ramayana serial was the first devotional serial on Indian television.
  • Actor Bal Dhuri (Dashrath) and Jayshree Gadakar (Kaushlya) were husband-wife in real life.
  • Actor Mulraj Rajda (King Janak) was father of actor Samir Rajda (Shatrughna) in Real life.
  • Many actors like Arun Govil, Deepika Chikalia, Sunil Laheri, Arvind Trivedi who worked in the serial Ramayana, had worked in the serial ‘Vikram Betal’ directed by Ramanand Sagar before Ramayana.

  • Ramanand Sagar had also directed many hit films before making the Ramayana serial. He also wanted to make a film based on the Ramayana, but due to not being able to show the entire Ramayana in a 3-hour film, he planned to make an expansion serial on the Ramayana.
  • Initially, Doordarshan did not agree to broadcast the Ramayana serial, but when the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi got the information about Ramanand Sagar’s project, he immediately ordered Doordarshan to broadcast the Ramayana serial.
  • Due to the Ramayana serial there was a race to purchase color television sets in India. According to a report, after the start of the Ramayana serial, about 4 crore television sets were sold.
  • To watch the Ramayana serial, visitors used to buy tickets in many video halls at that time.
