Schedule Of Election And By-poll In Indian States in 2018

India is a democratic country. There are many levels of channels for governance here. There are total 29 states and 7 union territories in India. In 29 states and two Union Territories, the government is rules by the elected government. Except Jammu and Kashmir, the remaining 28 states and 2 union territories have assembly elections every 5 years. Legislative elections are held in every election year in Jammu and Kashmir. Lok Sabha elections are held every 5 years for the central government too. There are 545 seats in the Lok Sabha in India, which have direct elections for 543 seats and the President nominates two Anglo-Indian persons for the remaining two seats. For many reasons like – because of a resignation of a MP or a MLA from his post, or because of a disqualification for his post of a MP or a MLA or his death during a post of MP or MLA, his seat becomes empty. In such vacant posts, elections are held for the remaining period, which is called By-Poll.
In India, many states are going to be held assembly elections in the year 2018 and there are many places where By-poles are going to be held in the Lok Sabha constituency. Here is list of schedule of those elections.

State Assembly Election 2018

  • Karnatak State assembly elections – 12th May , 2018 (There is currently a Congress government here.)
  • Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly election – November, 2018 (There is currently a BJP government here.)
  • Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly election – November, 2018 (There is currently a BJP government here.)
  • Rajasthan Legislative Assembly election – November, 2018 (There is currently a BJP government here.)

By-Poll Elections 2018

  • By-Poll Election for Kairana Lok Sabha constituency, UP – June 2018 (This seat has been vacant due to the death of BJP MP Hukum Singh.)
  • By-Poll Election for Bhandara-Gondiya Lok Sabha constituency, Maharashtra – June 2018 (This seat becomes vacant due to resignation of BJP MP Nanabhau Patole.)
  • By-Poll Election for Palghar Lok Sabha constituency, Maharashtra – June 2018 (This seat becomes vacant due to Death of BJP MP Chintaman Vanaga.)
  • By-Poll Election for Nagaland Lokasbha constituency, Nagaland – July 2018 (This seat becomes vacant due to resignation of Naga People’s Front MP Neiphiu Rio.)
  • By-Poll Election for Anantnag Lokasbha constituency, J&K – July 2018 (This seat becomes vacant due to resignation of J&K PDP MP Mehbooba Mufti.)
  • By Poll Election for Nathdwara Legislative constituency, Rajasthan – May, 2018 (This seat has been vacant due to the death of BJP MLA Kalyan Singh Chauhan.)
