रामायण धारावाहिक 1987 से 1988 के दौरान दूरदर्शन चैनल पर सुपरहिट धारावाहिक था। इस धारावाहिक के निर्माता और निर्देशक रामानंद सागर थे। रामायण धारावाहिक के बारे में कुछ रोचक तथ्य इस प्रकार हैं।

• रामायण धारावाहिक भारतीय टेलीविजन पर पहला भक्ति धारावाहिक था।
• रामायणपर टेलीविजन धारावाहिक बनाने का विचार रामानंद सागर पहली बार तब ही आया जब उन्होंने विदेश में पहली बार टेलीविजन को देखा। लेकिन जब उन्होंने अपना विचारअपने मित्रों के पास रखा तो मित्रों ने इसे बेकार प्लान बताया, जिसके वजह से रामानंद सागर ने कई वर्षों के लिए इसे स्थगित कर दिया था।
• इस धारावाहिक के अभिनेता बाल धुरी (दशरथ) और जयश्री गडकर (कौशल्या) असल जिंदगी में पति-पत्नी थे।
• अभिनेता मूलराज राजदा (राजा जनक) असल जिंदगी में अभिनेता समीर राजदा (शत्रुघ्न) के पिता थे, जबकि इस सीरियल में वो अपने ही पुत्र के ससुर का किरदार निभाया था।

• सीता का किरदार निभाने वाली दीपिका चिकालिया उस समय सिर्फ़ 22 साल की थीं। इस धारावाहिक की लोकप्रियता का लाभ उन्हें 1991 में बड़ौदा का सांसद बनने में भी मिला। दीपिका अभी भी फिल्मों में काम कर रही हैं। उनकी हालिया फिल्म 'बाला' थी, जिसमें उन्होंने परी की मां का किरदार निभाया था। 
• रामायण धारावाहिक में राम की भूमिका निभाने के लिए सबसे पहले जितेंद्र को और सीता की भूमिका के लिए श्रीदेवी को अप्रोच किया गया था। लेकिन किन्हीं कारणों से यह संभव नहीं हो सका। 
• रावण की भूमिका के लिए पहले फिल्म अभिनेता अमरीश पूरी से सम्पर्क किया गया था, मगर उस वक़्त अमरीश पूरी की फीस काफी अधिक थी, जिस वजह से बात नहीं बनी।
• रामायण में रावण की भूमिका निभाने वाले अरबिंद त्रिवेदी ने भी 1971 से फिल्म में काम करना शुरू कर दिया था। उस समय रामायण धारावाहिक को बनाने की पूरी लागत 3 करोड़ रुपये थी। 
• 1987-88 में दूरदर्शन को रामायण धारावाहिक के प्रसारण से प्रति एपिसोड 40 लाख रुपये का विज्ञापन मिलता था। और धारावाहिक निर्माता को इस राजस्व का 50% हिस्सा मिलता था। 
• 1987-88 में रामायण धारावाहिक 78 एपिसोड में प्रसारित हुआ था। 
• रामायण धारावाहिक बनाने से पहले रामानंद सागर ने कई हिट फिल्मों का निर्देशन भी किया था। वह रामायण पर आधारित एक फिल्म भी बनाना चाहते थे, लेकिन 3 घंटे की फिल्म में पूरी रामायण नहीं दिखा पाने के कारण उन्होंने रामायण पर एक विस्तार धारावाहिक बनाने की योजना बनाई। शुरुआत में दूरदर्शन रामायण धारावाहिक का प्रसारण करने के लिए राजी नहीं हुआ, लेकिन जब तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री राजीव गांधी को रामानंद सागर के प्रोजेक्ट की जानकारी मिली तो उन्होंने तुरंत दूरदर्शन को रामायण धारावाहिक प्रसारित करने का आदेश दिया। 
• शुरुआत में रामायण धारावाहिक सीरियल के लिए कलाकारों को 200 से 300 रूपये प्रति दिन पारिश्रमिक के तौर पर मिलते थे।बाद में जब सीरियल प्रसिद्ध हो गया तब कलाकारों को 1000 से 2000 रूपये प्रति दिन पारिश्रमिक मिलने लगा। 
• रामायण धारावाहिक के कारण भारत में रंगीन टेलीविजन सेट खरीदने की होड़ लग गई थी। एक रिपोर्ट के अनुसार रामायण धारावाहिक शुरू होने के बाद करीब 4 करोड़ टेलीविजन सेट बिक गए थे। रामायण धारावाहिक देखने के लिए दर्शक उस समय कई वीडियो हॉल में टिकट खरीदते थे।

In this series T-series company has make plan for make movie on Ramayana. It is in news that T-Series has decided to make mega budget movie on Ramayana with ₹300 Crore budget.
