  • On July 21, 2023, the Congress government of Rajasthan passed a bill in the assembly and announced the Mahatma Gandhi Minimum Income Guarantee Scheme, under which the rural poor would get 125 days instead of 100 days under the MNREGA scheme and the urban poor would get 125 days of employment instead of 100 days under the Indira Gandhi Urban Employment Guarantee Scheme. Rajasthan has become the first state in the country where the poor have been guaranteed minimum income. Along with this, old age pension, widow pension, disabled pension and divorced women pension were reduced to a minimum of Rs 1000 per month under the social security schemes in the state, and arrangements were also made to give an increment of 15% annually.
